A journey, a crisis and a dream

Ever since I was a child, when I used to spend my summer holidays in Portugal with my parents, motorhomes have always attracted my attention.
Years later, when I could finally afford it, I decided to buy my first motorhome. But first, I had to convince my wife, because I had one clear condition: the motorhome had to be bought without financing. If there was a letter, there would be no money to travel with.
After I got it and started to travel kilometres, the crisis of 2008 hit. I became unemployed and, at that moment, travelling with the motorhome became not only a passion, but also an opportunity.
We were moving from one place to another and soon realised that There was a lack of well-equipped overnight areas. for motorhomers. So, almost without realising it, our weekends turned into market research on wheels.
We counted motorhomes, analysed where they came from, what services they needed, and spent hours researching the sector on the internet.
This is how the idea of Camper Park Playas de Luz was born.
But it was one thing to want to set up an area and quite another to find the right place.
In that search alone I spent a whole year. When we finally found the perfect place, came the hardest part: paperwork, licenses, permits... A process
tedious that was extended for three years. All in all, four years of struggle until we were able to open.
It was worth the wait.
From the very first day, it was clear to us that we did not want to be just another area, but rather a place where we ourselves would like to be with our motorhome.

 

The vision: creating what I would have liked to have found

My wife and I tore out the area by ourselves, throwing it completely on our backs. I lived there for fourteen months without going out, plus the six months of the pandemic. It was an intense time, but it was necessary to get the project off the ground.
As we grew, we incorporated Goretti and Cristinawho are part of our reception team and who many of our travellers already know. More recently, we have been joined by Antoniowhich is responsible for the maintenance of the facilities.
We know what a motorhomers needs because we are motorhomers. And that shows in every decision we make.
For example, when we designed the area, it was not easy to convince the site manager of what we really wanted:

● Two taps in the spillage area, one for the cistern and one for rinsing out the cassettes of the chemical toilet.
● Taps at different heightsSome people use their own hose and others prefer to connect to the hose in the area.
● A hand wash basin in the emptying areaIt seemed so basic to me that I didn't understand how it didn't exist in other areas.
The same applies to the plotsWe wanted them to be level and to be flat, spacious, with a good view, without obstacles to manoeuvre and with a gravel, to avoid dust in summer and mud in winter.
Every detail is designed to make life easier for the traveller.

 

A space that reflects our philosophy: welcome, comfort and nature.

When it comes, we like it welcome it with a smile and take a few minutes to explain the area, the services and what you can discover in the surroundings.
For us, personalised attention makes the difference, and this is something that our visitors value highly, along with the cleanliness, the well-kept pitches and the natural surroundings.
If we were to define the area in three words, would be:
✔ Reception, because we know how important it is to feel welcome.
✔ Comfort, because we take care of every detail to make the traveller comfortable.
✔ Nature, because we are surrounded by a unique landscape, with views of the marshes and their flamingos.

 

Over the years we have shared stories of all kinds... and some very beautiful ones.

In all this time, we have experienced many anecdotes. Some funny, some surreal, and some that have touched our hearts.
But perhaps the most emotional was that of Coconut of Lighta little white dog that appeared in the wounded area, after having been mistreated.
Little by little, we took care of her, but it was my daughters who gained her trust. Every night she slept in our motorhome, they took her out for walks, and she was spoilt with cuddles.
They became so attached to her that they eventually found her a home. Today Coco lives happily adopted in Scotlandbut it is still in our hearts.
Stories like this remind us why we love this project.

A recognition that endorses us

Obtain the "Q for Tourist Quality". was a major milestone for us and for the sector. We went to the first motorhome area in Spain in achieving this Ministry of Tourism, a recognition that until then only campsites had received.
For us, more than a stamp, it is the proof that we do things right, with quality processes designed to make every traveller feel at home.
